The Legend
The Sexton Single Malt comes from the creative craft of Master Blender Alex Thomas, The Sexton’s first female master blender. Legend has it that The Sexton derives its name from the word sacristanus, meaning “custodian of sacred objects.” This word was used to describe the last man to see the body before it was buried.
While the single malt is actually distilled on the northern coast of Ireland at Bushmills Distillery, it is carving its own identity in the world of whiskey. Having worked in the timber industry, Alex Thomas has used her knowledge to have the casks used to age the single malt built to her specifications: oak type, toast level, type of sherry used and the length of time of the air seasoning [1]. The name given to the whiskey fits perfectly for a master blender that has created an exquisite offering using the sacred art of whiskey making.
The Sexton is a both a mysterious and surprisingly good Irish single malt. This is certainly one to keep on the shelf.
