Teeling Whiskey Single Grain – Review

The Legend

Legend has it that the Teeling family has a history in distilling in Ireland dating as far back to 1782 when Walter Teeling setup a small craft distillery in Dublin City [1]. The new Teeling Distillery was opened by brothers Jack and Stephen Teeling in 2015, the first new distillery in Dublin for over 125 years.

The expressions coming out of Teeling are some of the best Irish whiskey I’ve had the pleasure of tasting. Their innovative style allows them to marry the past and present to create the future of Irish whiskey. The Single Grain expression is an example of that. It is one of the first Irish whiskies that I have seen where the mash bill is predominantly corn. If this is what Teeling can do with corn, I excitedly look forward to their future expressions.

Final Thoughts

On the first taste I was disappointed as I expected more from it like I received from the other expressions of Teeling. I revisited a few months later and I was able to get more enjoyable, expressive notes from the sip. This is an example of evolving palates and how what you eat before sipping can have an impact on your experience of a whisky.

Overall: 🥃🥃
