Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof – Review

Rare Breed Barrel Proof hails from the Wild Turkey distillery and the legend is well known to those who love bourbon. Legend has it that in 1869, the Ripy brothers opened the distillery on “Wild Turkey Hill in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.”[1] The bourbon itself earned its name after one of the executives shares the bourbon with friends while wild turkey hunting. The business of Austin Nichols, a wholesale grocer of wines and spirits, would later own and sell Wild Turkey. The distillery and brand changed hands a few more time after that.

The famed Russell family of distillers started at the distillery in 1954 with Jimmy Russel. Rare Breed was introduced in 1991 as one of the first barrel proof bourbons. The world of Wild Turkey whiskey continues to grow and expand into rye and other brands.
