291 Barrel Proof Single Barrel Colorado Bourbon Whiskey – Review
The Legend
Distillery 291 was founded by Michael Myers, a former NYC fashion and beauty photographer. Legend has it that given his passion for the old west and his vision of a cowboy walking into a bar and asking for a whiskey, with 291 Colorado Whiskey, he wanted to replicate “the taste, smell and folklore of that time.”
And I would say the distillery has done just that. The flavors are rich and bold with each sip bringing to mind rich, dark wood, leather boots and the dark corners of a bar. The distillery has won numerous awards for their whiskey, and if they keep putting out expressions that delight and please, they have many more awards in their future.

Cask: American white oak deep char barrels, finished with toasted Aspen staves
Age: NAS
ABV: 64.1%

Color: deep amber
Legs: medium-fast, medium bodied
Nose: black liquorice, maple syrup, root beer, hints of cherries, toast, baking spice, mint
Palate: heat, cherry syrup, a cooking herb I can’t quite put my finger on, black liquorice, root beer, dry mouthfeel
Finish: long, cherry, root beer, lingers on the cheeks, quick hug

Final Thoughts
The nose and the palate is amazing with root beer, black liquorice and cherry notes. To me the flavoring grain tastes like wheat, but it’s malted rye. The finish just keeps going and going with those black liquorice and root beer notes.
